In some ways The Diminisher is similar to ‘imposter syndrome’. But it’s also different as the latter specifically focuses on achievement and success. The Diminisher is a concept that represents how we view and act towards ourselves that undermines our success and potential. It’s the embodiment of our self-sabotaging behaviours, doubts and limiting beliefs.

Nature: The Diminisher shows up as the critical inner voice that constantly questions our abilities. By downplaying our achievements, and amplifying our insecurities

Origin: It often stems from past experiences, criticisms we’ve internalised, or societal pressures we’ve absorbed over time i.e. childhood bullying

Tactics: The Diminisher employs various strategies such as negative self-talk, procrastination, perfectionism, and fear-based decision-making to hold us back

Impact: By listening to The Diminisher, we may avoid taking risks and settle for less than we deserve. Or fail to recognise and celebrate our successes

Recognition: Identifying The Diminisher’s voice is the first step in combating its influence. It often speaks in absolutes (“You’ll never succeed”) or comparisons (“Everyone else is doing better than you”)

Now we know what to look out for, let’s look at 5 strategies for you to manage The Diminisher. Plus explore strategies to unlock your limitless potential.

1. Act as if

Act in alignment with your growing belief in yourself and pursue opportunities you wouldn’t normally go after. The change isn’t about what you do, but HOW you think about yourself and your capacity to succeed. These shifts in mindset lead to practical, tangible changes in your life. Moving you from a place of scarcity, fear and invisibility to one of abundance, confidence, and visibility.

2. Intentional action

The key shift isn’t just about taking action but intentional action without the need to prove your worth. When you begin valuing yourself you transform the energy behind your efforts. Instead of avoiding visibility, you seek it out. Rather than focusing on what others think, you focus on what you’re capable of achieving.

3. Accepting compliments

Stop putting yourself down and rejecting compliments, instead practise receiving them with grace. Start to entertain the possibility that you are more capable than you give yourself credit for. Rejecting compliments is a bigger deal than we realise. It’s a symptom of something deeper to be dealt with i.e. self-worth.

Act as if you’ve already achieved the results you desire. Your mind doesn’t know the difference between reality and imagination. Visualise your desires and act in alignment with your goals

4. Speak your truth

Stop hiding who you are behind a mask of safety. Be bold and brave and share your opinions with the world, otherwise you’ll forever live in your own shadow. Apply to be a guest speaker and believe that you have the capacity to go to your next level of income and impact. Take small but consistent steps every day. You’ll soon surprise yourself with what is possible.

5. Self-validation

Focus on your internal validation. Let go of the need to be validated by others to feel worthy and accepted. That is a past story that was put in place to protect you. But you don’t need it anymore, because you are already worthy. Just focus on creating a 1% shift every day. This will have a massive compound effect over time on your income and impact.

Start advocating for yourself and others will advocate for you too. Success comes from having the belief that you can achieve what you previously thought you couldn't

These 5 strategies are powerful but to go deeper for longer lasting and faster results you must work with your subconscious mind. We create our identity and beliefs in the first 7 years of our life and play them on repeat like an outdated computer program.
