I’m a glass half full kind of person. I’d rather be an optimist than a realist any day as the vibes help me maintain a positive mindset and build resilience in the face of adversity.
I’m often asked how I stay so positive and in today’s blog I want to share some of my tips on going from chaos to calm by nurturing a daily positive mindset.
I’ve always been able to process and bounce back quickly and I know my mindset and approach to life are big factors in that.
Daily Mindset Practices
My positive mindset and perspective of the world has been supported by daily mindset practices. This has evolved over the years and has included various practices, from…
Affirmations
Visualisation
Meditation
Reading
Podcasts
EFT / Tapping
Exercise
Morning walk
Journaling
Mindfulness
Having a daily mindset practice is not a one size fits all approach. It’s whatever works for you. There is no right or wrong, other than staying consistent.
Even on the busier days I make sure I get at least two practices in. The reality is that having a daily mindset practice compounds over time. It helps create and maintain a positive mindset. Giving you better control over your negative self-talk.
The Art of Bouncing Back
We can’t stay positive all the time. Life is going to throw us curve balls and that’s why it’s important to master the art of bouncing back. Sometimes we need to take the rough with the smooth.
When the unexpected happens this can increase the chances of our negative self-talk taking over. It’s important to recognise when this happens and have a strategy for dealing with it.
With a good strategy in place the amount of time it takes to bounce back from a setback shortens. Plus it increases your resilience too.
Here’s some great strategies for bouncing back from a set back and reconnecting with a positive mindset…
Know that it’s just for now and not forever…it’s just a moment in time and it will pass!
Be kind to yourself. If you need to take time out, cry, hit a wall…do it! Process your emotions
Pay attention to your negative self-talk and challenge it. What’s the best / worse case scenario?
Process your thoughts and emotions through meditation, journaling or EFT to shift negative energy
Accept the setback, focus on what you can control and let go of that which you can’t control
From Chaos to Calm
When you’re in the midst of chaos it can feel hard to find the light at the end of the tunnel. I know as I used to spend so much time looking for the light.
When you’ve been pulled down into some of the heavier emotions on the emotional scale your negative self-talk can start raging. Keeping you in the heavier emotions of worry, doubt and fear.
Using the emotional scale you can take incremental steps to start shifting your energy. By practicing gratitude in the moment you can start to climb the emotional scale. Shifting you from chaos to calm, step by step.
For example, if you’re feeling caught up in fear, focus on just one thing that makes you feel happy and joyful in your life. Maybe it’s your partner, pet or the late summer sunshine.
Each time you shift your focus and practice gratitude you have the power to shift your energy and emotional state. Focus on the good things that light you up, no matter how small.
I hope you’ve been able to take some inspiration from my own journey around maintaining a positive mindset. I’d love to hear what surprised you most about this week’s blog, so please do comment and let me know.
