Over the years in my coaching business I’ve got caught up in the ‘how’ instead of actually taking action. A form of self-doubt and self-sabotage in itself. Because when we’re planning we’re not doing.

I’ve invested thousands in my business, sometimes chasing the ‘how’ instead of taking consistent action. Maybe you yourself have invested thousands in your business and are still looking for results 🫣

Here’s what I’ve learnt about getting caught up in the ‘how’ of building your business. We aren’t  prioritising our mindset.

You can do all the strategy in the world. But if you’re not consistently working on your mindset then it’s going to be hard to get the results you want.

The Early Years

I was in full dreaming mode. Looking at the next qualification that would help me understand ‘how’ I could better help my clients. When really I needed to go from planning to doing.

I considered training as a Reiki practitioner but thankfully a friend talked me out of it. It wasn’t the right time, although years later I did and I am now a Reiki Master 🙏

I learned from this, and many other experiences, that doing consistent mindset work is the key to breaking through the self-doubt, resistance and self-sabotage. In this blog I’m going to help you shift your mindset so you can recognise and eliminate patterns of self-sabotage.

So that you can break down the limitations that are holding you back. You’ll also get practical support in taking the steps to create growth in your business

Identifying Your Patterns

One of the first steps in overcoming self-doubt for business growth is understanding your patterns of self-sabotage. With 95 – 99% of our behaviours run on subconscious patterning, it’s sometimes hard to recognise these. There are patterns in everything and sometimes the best approach to finding them is via an external perspective.

So reach out to your business bestie, the friend you’ve known since school, your partner or a family member. Ask them what patterns or behaviour do they recognise in you that you keep repeating. Then ask yourself, are these patterns helping or hindering your next level of business growth?

Common patterns of self-sabotage can include…

💜 Over committing and being so busy you never get the important stuff done

💚 Procrastinating and putting off the tasks that make you feel uncomfortable

💛 Overthinking and second guessing yourself instead of taking action instead

❤️ Perfectionism and believing that your work will never be good enough

Another fantastic way of identifying your patterns is keeping track of your to do list. Are you finding that you are rolling over the same task each week but not actually taking action on it? Is procrastination a pattern for you?

Time tracking your diary using a tool like Toggl is really powerful to see where you are actually spending your time. Plus of course, what you are avoiding. This will help you identify where you need to go from planning to doing.

Releasing The Resistance

Now you’ve got an understanding that your patterns are mostly played out in your subconscious mind. Plus some useful tools and techniques to break free from self-sabotage, for greater business success.

But there’s that resistance there when it comes to breaking your long-term ingrained patterns of behaviour. Time for you to go from planning to doing.

My biggest piece of advice that I can give you here is tap! Say what?! I’m talking about EFT (Emotional Freedom Techniques), often referred to as tapping. When you tap on end points of meridians you can clear negative emotions.

You can reframe beliefs and direct the movie of your life. But it’s important to tune into the energy or memory so that you’re tapping on something specific. For example if you’re procrastinating on a piece of work you may notice a red ball of energy in your stomach with an emotion of fear or overwhelm.

Tapping has changed my life and I’d love for it to change your life too! If you’d like to learn more about tapping and how you can transform your life, download my Empowerment Bundle.

It has a ton of resources that will support you in shifting out of all sorts of self-sabotaging patterns. Once you do, that resistance you’re feeling now around taking that one action you’ve been putting off. Puff! Gone.

Breaking Down Your Limitations

Firstly, let’s address the word ‘limitation’. In no way are you limited, it’s only your perception. You are in fact limitless and unstoppable.

But there’s some practical support you can put in place to help you transmute from self-doubt to self-belief. So you can go from planning to doing. Ready to shift your perception of yourself and see just how powerful and amazing you really are.

Ask yourself reflective questions and change your perception and look at the reality of a situation or belief.

👉 What evidence do you have to support your belief? Is it really true?

👉 What is the benefit of holding onto this belief?

Take some time to journal on these questions. Sometimes there’s a secondary gain around holding onto a belief. For example, you’re telling yourself you don’t know enough so you procrastinate.

The secondary gain is that you stay in your comfort zone. You don’t take a risk and therefore this keeps you feeling safe from a fear of judgement or failure.

Get Uncomfortable

Don’t be afraid to explore your discomfort and join the dots to discover past memories or beliefs. Ones where the same belief or emotion came up. Join the dots and create a pattern interrupt. This can be as simple as repeating positive affirmations or having a screensaver with your goal.

Or as I’ve done for myself, have a photo of yourself with a mentor or role model. If they can do it, so can you! If you haven’t got a picture of you with them, then find a picture of them from their website. Put it somewhere you can see it everyday. Let it be a reminder of what’s possible for you.
