I felt so annoyed with myself, sitting there with the paper circling the B, busily beating myself up that I got a B for my history GCSE and not an A. I needed to get the best mark, I needed to be perfect. I should have got an A not a B and I was busy should-ing all over myself!

To give this context I’d re-taken my history GCSE in my early twenties as I missed the exam on the day and I’d just got the results in. One paper got an A (yeeessss!) and the other a B, which I was far from happy about. I’d pushed myself so hard and really enjoyed history so was so disappointed in myself that I didn’t get an A.

My perfectionist tendencies and negative self-talk were thriving at this point and a B just wasn’t good enough!

But I’m here to tell you that you ARE good enough and that in fact you are ‘imperfectly perfect’!

People Pleasing & Self-Sabotage

Perfectionism is a self-protection mechanism. We use it to protect us from a fear of judgement and not feeling good enough. Plus feeling afraid that we’ll look like a newbie and don’t have all our shit together, which means everything needs to be perfect and we obsess over everything. We end up feeling like we haven’t done it right, which creates anxiety that feeds off our negative self-talk.

Perfectionism is different to high standards and can fall into a form of people pleasing. When our desire to please others becomes focused on an obsessive need to be perfect it creates a desire for external validation. We seek external validation from others to convince ourselves that we are indeed ‘good enough’. But that validation can come from inside us too, when we heal that part of ourselves that has us playing small.

Perfection is blocking the success of your business

You might not want to hear it but your need for perfectionism can be blocking the success of your business. Have you ever heard yourself say or think any of the following…

👉I just need to tweak it a bit more

👉I could do better

👉I’ll just add this

👉That doesn’t look right

Feel free to comment below and share with me what you find yourself saying or thinking when you fall into those patterns of perfectionism. All this negative self-talk and beating yourself up isn’t serving you and it’s blocking the success of your coaching business. I know you don’t want that, because I know you’re here with a mission to create a huge impact in the world.

Ditch the perfectionism and still deliver for your clients

Perfectionism is just a subconscious pattern that has been programmed into you and as with anything that has been programmed, it can be unprogrammed. Much like a computer!

There are so many great ways to reprogramme our mind from meditation, visualisation, positive affirmation, NLP anchors and so much more. But one of my BIG loves is EFT / Emotional Freedom Techniques, also referred to as tapping as you tap on end points of meridians to shift ‘stuck’ energy’.

I love working with my coaching clients and seeing the shift in them after just a few minutes of tapping as they are suddenly able to see things in a new perspective. Instead of feeling caught up in perfectionism and feeling they have to be perfect to be good enough, they start to see new possibilities. In fact, I created an empowerment bundle with a tapping script that you can follow word for word to help you address your own perfectionist tendencies and so much more. So you can ditch the perfectionism and still deliver for your clients.

Gain followers and sales by being your authentic self

None of us are perfect and when we actually bring down the wall of perfectionism and just show up as our authentic selves, we create a deeper and more meaningful connection with our audience and clients.

People don’t want perfection, they want authenticity. When you have the courage and bravery to step into being your true self, without feeling you need to be perfect, you become so much more relatable.

When you show up as your authentic and imperfectly perfect self, it gives others permission to be themselves too. It creates connection and community. It builds the know, like and trust.
