Being an entrepreneur, you have to have resilience and pick yourself up, dust yourself off and start again. It can be a bit of a rinse and repeat cycle.

You’re going to have moments where you may be on the brink of tears or in need of a stiff drink after work with a friend. It’s hard to be resilient all the time in business. However, resilience is like a muscle and the more you flex it the stronger it gets.

I’ve had many ups and downs in business including spending MONTHS on learning Mailchimp (I’m not techy) and putting together an email automation for an EFT Video Mindset Series only for two people to sign up and have technical difficulties I couldn’t fix.

Sometimes I’ve felt like giving up, but you know what’s kept me going? My resilience and desire to serve…something that has been with me since I was 7!

Here are five top tips that have helped me build my resilience:

FUN: Make time for fun and laughter in your life. Work and all play will only wear you and your resilience down. Make sure you have a hobby or an interest that gets you out of your home, even better get out in nature and the fresh air. The more you laugh and have fun the more endorphins your body will release and in turn this will help you build resilience in your life. It’s much easier after all to deal with challenges when you’re feeling good and in a positive state of mind.

DETERMINATION: Never give up! Remember to stay focused on your goal, your outcome and remember your big WHY! Why is it that you’re doing what you’re doing? What lead you to create the business that you have. Trust me, sheer determination can get you a long way and will help you push your business forward

COMMUNITY – Having a support network is so important for any entrepreneur or small business owner. Sometimes you’ve got to let go of the struggle and ask for help. There’s no shame in it and it’s actually a sign of strength. There will be things that you excel at and other things which will be areas of challenge.

Reach out in your community and connect with someone who is more experienced and skilled in an area you’re not. Connect with your peer group and seek support so you can stay resilient in your business instead of letting the little things in your business get on top of you.

POSITIVE BELIEFS – Build positive beliefs in your abilities by learning and applying what you’ve learnt. You can sit there and say you don’t know how to do something. But if you apply yourself and learn how then you’ll build resilience in your business as you’ll have overcome more obstacles and will be able to look back on your wins.

NURTURE YOURSELF – It’s really important that you look after yourself. There’s no point in being resilient if you don’t keep a good balance in your life. Make sure you make time for yourself to relax. Resilience doesn’t mean working all the hours that you can. It means working at your best, dealing with the challenges through the day and giving yourself a break so that you can recharge your batteries for the next day!
