You might often feel like you’re the problem, but it’s not you – it’s your thoughts that are the real culprit, but you have the power to turn them into empowering beliefs.
Negative thoughts can become all-consuming, playing like an iTunes playlist on repeat. That’s how it used to be for me until I put in the work to transform my mindset.
This week’s blog will help you recognize patterns of self-sabotage and negative self-talk, empowering you to transform limiting beliefs and break disempowering behaviours and patterns.
Crafting your mental vision
When caught in negative self-talk, you’re focused on what you DON’T want. The first step to transforming your thoughts and feelings is setting an intention for what you DO want and how you want to feel!
Get crystal clear on your desires. Whether it’s a financial goal, an experience, or something else, spend a few minutes daily focusing on what you truly want. Visualise, feel, and immerse yourself in the mental picture.
This powerful technique reprograms your mind because the brain can’t distinguish between imagination and reality. It will seek out opportunities or motivate you to take action towards your dreams.
Cultivating mental stillness
Quieting your mind helps silence your inner critic – the voice that says you’re not good enough, can’t achieve your goals, and don’t deserve success. If you’re new to meditation, don’t overthink it. You can’t get it wrong, and your mind will wander. That’s perfectly okay. I often find myself doing meal planning during my meditations!
The key is noticing when your thoughts drift and gently returning to the present moment. Remember, the past has already happened, the future hasn’t arrived – all you have is the present moment.
Flipping the script
Another powerful way to transform your thoughts and feelings is through a thought-flipping exercise. When you notice a negative thought, write it down, then flip it to a positive one. Practise this as often as possible each day to reprogram your mind.
The more you do this, the more you’ll retrain your brain to default to positive, empowering thoughts, changing how you think and feel. When you alter your thoughts and feelings, you change your actions. New actions lead to new outcomes.
