Mindset is not a one and done deal. It’s like having a shower. You wouldn’t just have one shower, you’d have a shower every day to keep on top of your personal hygiene. If you don’t you’re going to get dirty and start to smell.
It’s the same with your mindset. It’s important to maintain a daily practice. To support you with feeling confident and keeping your self-doubt and critical self-talk at bay.
In this week’s blog I’m going to share my favourite mindset practices I’ve found has helped me change my internal word for external results. We’re also going to explore what to do if you’ve fallen off the mindset wagon and how to rebuild a consistent practice. Lastly we’re going to look at how to integrate proven mindset strategies in a way that supports your life.
Changing your internal world for external results
Affirmations are a big part of my morning routine but there’s no point doing them if you don’t enthuse them with feeling. Reciting your affirmations and ticking them off the list to get to the next thing won’t do anything for you! It’s about embodying your affirmations and owning them as if they’re real, as if they’ve already happened or been achieved.
Having an attitude of gratitude can create powerful changes in your mindset. It helps you shift into positivity and support you in focusing on what’s going well instead of what’s not going so well. I love to write a list of 10 things I’m grateful for each evening, then in the morning I read through that list and really feel the gratitude in my body.
What a great way to start the day!
Another powerful tool for supporting you with mindset shifts is EFT (Emotional Freedom Techniques), also known as tapping. I love to use this practice with my clients to help them break free from negative thoughts, feelings and beliefs. If you’d like to learn more about how this can support you, check out my Empowerment Bundle. It includes EFT scripts for confidence, self- belief, perfectionism, to ditching your imposter syndrome and so much more!
Creating a consistent mindset practice
Sometimes we can fall off the wagon when it comes to our mindset and that’s OK. The first thing to do is to practise forgiveness towards yourself. Because sometimes life gets in the way. Take some time to reflect on what caused you to break your daily mindset practice. Were you prioritising being busy over being mindful for example?
To get back into a mindset routine, time block what you want to do and when. As Marie Forleo says ‘if it’s not scheduled it’s not real’. By scheduling a morning routine and letting others know that this is a time for you not to be disturbed, you create a regular practice.
Supporting your way of life
There are so many powerful and amazing mindset practises but they’re not all going to be written for you. Which is why it’s important to adopt proven mindset strategies that support you and your life.
There was a time where I had a two hour morning routine. Consisting of reading, meditation, visualisation, journaling and exercise. At that time that suited my needs and lifestyle, but not so much now. Also I learnt that I don’t have to do ‘all things’ every day. I get to do what works for me and the same goes for you.
Spend some time thinking about what mindset practices work well for you. They could include any of the above or some of the below suggestions…
Reflective questioning
Morning pages
Listening to a podcast
Reading a book
Exercise
Breathwork
EFT / Tapping
Ultimately you get to decide what works for you and your life. Also, give yourself permission to mix it up. Try experimenting with new practices. Don’t be afraid of change.
