According to the Association of Independent Professionals and the Self-Employed (IPSE) freelancers in the UK contributed an amazing £119 billion to the economy in 2016.
This is an astonishing figure and just goes to show the vital role that freelancers play in supporting the economy. Yet, so many people are unhappily stuck in their corporate 9 – 5 career, mainly due to the mindset and beliefs that hold them back from moving forward.
Change Your Mindset Change Your Life
Mindset is probably the largest factor in determining success in all areas of your life, including making the jump from corporate to freelancer. The thoughts you have affect your behaviour, your behaviour then affects your actions and ultimately your actions determine your outcome and the results you achieve.
As the famous quote by Neale Donald Walsch says ‘Life begins at the end of your comfort zone’.
Get Out Of Your Own Way
The only person that is stopping you achieving your goals and dreams is YOU! The only difference between those that have achieved success and you are that they took action. Even though they were afraid of the outcome, afraid they would fail. They stepped out of their comfort zone and changed their mindset to one of believing and achieving.
Say “No” More Than “Yes”
Part of building the right mindset is knowing what your priorities are and saying ‘no’ more than you say ‘yes’. When you say ‘yes’ to everything you’re saying ‘no’ to the things that really matter to you. I used to think I had to say ‘yes’ to everything but in doing so I forgot to think about what I really wanted, about my own happiness. I was burning the candle at both ends and I wasn’t happy. I wasn’t adding value to my life!
One of the secrets of highly successful people is that they say ‘no’ to more things than they say ‘yes’ to.
What will you regret if you continue to say ‘yes’ instead of ‘no’?
Surround Yourself With People That Belief In You
Having a support network when transitioning from your corporate career to a freelancer is key. No one needs to go through this alone. So, surround yourself with friends that support you and encourage you to live your dreams. Join entrepreneurial Facebook groups, such as The Freedom Collective run by Shaa Wasmund MBE and don’t be afraid to ask for help.
Surround yourself with people that lift you up and believe in you as you’re much more likely to achieve your goals with a positive mindset.
With Mindset Comes Attitude
Having a positive attitude can really help you with achieving success in your life. By focusing on the positives as opposed to the negatives you’re creating a mindset for success and achievement. If you believe you can do something then you’re much more likely to achieve it Whereas if you don’t believe you can do it you’re much less likely to achieve it. Keep focused, stay positive and see the glass as half full and remember you can always refill the glass!
Your mind is a positive thing. When you fill it with positive thoughts, your life will start to change!
