When you start out on the journey of building your Virtual Assistant business you naturally want to know how to get started and how to get clients. There are so many how’s, from how to set your pricing, how to develop your brand, how to turn leads into sales.
As much as understanding the ‘how’ of these things is important as you grow your business it’s also important to consider your ‘why’, which this blog will address.
Find your ‘why’
“He who has a why can endure any how.” – Frederick Nietzsche
Ask yourself why it is that you want to become a Virtual Assistant online business owner as opposed to working for someone else as an employee. As Simon Sinek, author of ‘Start With Why’, says…
The WHY is the purpose, cause or belief that drives every one of us.
For me it is about empowering Assistants to have the confidence and self-belief that they can create a successful Virtual Assistant business. To demonstrate to them how powerful they are, so that they know they are enough and can dare to achieve more.
Take a moment to connect with your ‘why’ and use this to motivate you as you grow your business, especially on those more challenging days. Keep coming back to your ‘why’ and let it be the driver to you achieving your goals.
More than money
“The siren call for many entrepreneurs isn’t money, it’s freedom. The freedom to chart your own path, the freedom to build what you want with the people you love.” – Andrew Wilkinson
What is it that’s driving you to create your Virtual Assistant business? The reason probably isn’t money, or at least it shouldn’t be. Ask yourself, if money was no object, what would you do?
Most business owners create their online business for personal satisfaction, a sense of accomplishment, creating something of their own and the flexibility to design their day on their terms. Ultimately, it all comes down to having freedom and breaking free of the corporate shackles.
Most businesses don’t make money straight away so keep connecting back to your ‘why’ and figure out the ‘how’ as you go along. It’s your ‘why’ that will keep you motivated so that you can then spend time focusing on ‘how’ you’re going to move your VA business forward one step at a time.
Discover your passion
“You can only become truly accomplished at something you love. Don’t make money your goal. Instead pursue the things you love doing, and then do them so well that people can’t take their eyes off of you.” – Maya Angelou
We all want to make money in our business but without a passion for what you do, you’ll find it hard to stay motivated. Over the course of my career I’ve learnt that passion is contagious, in fact my clients have said so themselves. If your audience knows that you love what you do, they’ll be more confident that you’ve created a service that will support them.
When you show up for your business and for your clients connected to your ‘why’ they’ll feel more connected with you and it will build the all important know, like and trust, which is an important element in the buying process.
People don’t buy what you do, they buy why you do it.
As I mentioned, the ‘how’ is still important but the ‘why’ has to come first and as a little gift to you I’d like to share my Virtual Assistant Startup Up guide.
